Firstly, the strapping around the crate or box should be prepared. The strapping’s end should then be inserted through the buckle’s center and wrapped around the exposed leg to create a loop. Make sure the top strap is on the shorter end, tighten it around the leg, and then pull the top ends of the straps in opposite directions to apply tension. The straps can be manually tightened with tensioners. (The first thing you should check is that the buckle is held with the right side facing you; one method to remember this is to imagine a “C” on the buckle.)
After that, use the tensioner tool to squeeze the handle to elevate the gripper foot by positioning the manual tensioner on the bottom strap about 30 cm above the buckle. While the top strap passes through the cutter housing and the windlass, the bottom strap will go underneath the gripper foot.
Once you have the strap completely tightened and the buckle has begun to sag on the strap, you may then begin to tighten it. To cut the strap and move the tensioner away, squeeze the handle of the tensioner. If the buckle is made of high-quality, hard steel, the legs should close when the strap is tightened. If the buckle was broken or the legs were open, inferior soft wire steel was used.
That’s how you can use a composite strap and make a better knot.
